I have to admit that I really don’t think that I’m a fan of Dickens. The way his novels are is just way too annoying for me. I could probably put up with it and loved it as periodicals but as a BIG chunky novel – No, thanks!Right from the very beginning when Dickens unveiled the very ignominious character of Mr Dombey, I thought, “oh dear, I’m really going to hate this one”. But I persevered, if only for the sake of finding out what will happen to the beautiful creature called Florence Dombey. The only redeeming point (as with all Dickens’ novels I’ve read so far) is that each characters get what they deserve and that’s a very morally satisfying story.
