Horatio Winwood is the youngest daughter of the Winwoods but she does not carry the Winwood charateristics of the arched eyebrows & height. Her eldest sister's hand, Lizzie, was sought in marriage by the Duke of Rule. Whilst Lizzie was in love with another gentleman, she is being forced to accept this offer of marriage due to the financial circumstances of the family.Horatio, who loves her sister so, could not stand to see Lizzie sacrifice herself for her family. She, then, approached the Duke of Rule and offered herself in Lizzie's stead: even though she is not known as a Winwood beauty and speaks with a stammer.The beginning, as outlined above, I liked but then I found Horatio to be a silly chit and was thoroughly annoyed! However as the story unfold, perhaps about 3/4 through the audiobook, I realised, she may be silly but she is also smart.
