The main protagonist, Rob, is a university drop-out who owns a not-so-successfull record store. The book begins with him being dumped by his current partner, Laura, and he started by listing the top 5 of most painful 'dumps' of his life.The main part of the book is about his effort in coping with his most recent break-up by exploring his past, mainly the reasons by he was dumped by the top 5 women in his life who he reckons 'messed him up', and relationships with the people around him. It's not until he faced death that the realises what he really feared & needed.
